But the S20's legitimately knockout features and specs never really come together for me the way they do on the Galaxy Note 10 and 10 Plus, and that's a shame. There’s no choice when it comes to storage, but the 128GB of onboard space can at least be upgraded up to a further 1TB via microSD if required. The Galaxy S20 supports cards up to 1TB – if you need even more internal storage, you’ll want to opt for the Galaxy S20 Ultra or Galaxy S20 Plus that offer 256GB and 512GB options. There’s also 15W wireless charging on offer, and while it’s not as fast as the wired variety it’s always a useful option to have.However, pictures looked a touch candy-coloured for my liking, and the iPhone 11 did a better job at capturing more neutral-looking images. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has higher camera specs overall, but most people will be more than satisfied with the shooter on this phone. We found this to be faster and more reliable than the option on the Galaxy S10, but it isn’t perfect with us regularly having to retry our digits on the reader to be able to access the phone. There’s also 30x digital zoom if you need it, and while this isn’t lossless we found it to be useful in some scenarios.

Just like last year’s models, I actually prefer the smaller versions of Samsung’s handsets, as I feel they fit more comfortably in the hand.You end up with photos, ultra-wides, portraits, hyperlapse video, regular video, and so on, and we’re big fans of this feature – not every shot or clip is perfect, but it kept us out of the settings menus and more engaged with what we were trying to snap, and it changed the way we shot photos. Where you will find a drastic difference, however, is if you decide to switch on the 120Hz setting, which negatively affected the S20’s battery life by roughly five hours in my testing. We assess the sound quality of the external speakers with a range of different music, so you can be assured that it will do your favourite tracks justice. If you want to be future-proofed with a 5G version of the handset (and that’s your only choice in markets like the US) then this is an expensive device.
